Relief Carving Videos
Woodcarving the Florida River Scene Class - Added Sep-Jan/April 2022
with Dylan Goodson
Inspired by a favorite vacation spot, Dylan’s Florida river relief scene features a manatee in the water and a house overlooking the palm and cypress tree lined river banks. On this carving Dylan keeps the structure of the house simple, making it much easier to carve and then teaches you how to create the complex details of the house with wood burning. Which includes a fun and easy technique for creating the screened in porch. Carving the Manatee in the river is a fun part of the carving, free from the rules of perspective that apply to the house and dock, which Dylan will teach you about. Carving the banana tree, palm trees and cypress trees will provide the opportunity to try out several different foliage textures, some of which are new.

Carving Figures in Relief Online Class - will be added December 2022-January 2023
with Dylan Goodson
In this online video series Dylan will teach you how to carve human figures in relief. The project that Dylan demonstrates is a depiction of Jesus Christ on the cross. There are approximately 17 hours of video, nearly five hours of which are dedicated to the painting process.
You will provide your own wood. If you choose to make the carving the same size as Dylan’s, a wood size of 12-14″ wide by 17-18″ tall by 1″ thick is suggested. A thicker board can be used, which would allow you to carve in deeper relief and give the figure more definition.
